Six months after the publication of Cicero Moraes’s hypothesis about a medieval origin of the Shroud, a response by three Italian experts dismantles that theory, which had already been rejected by similar studies in the 1980s. Debate over the Shroud’s authenticity continues, recently reignited by the Brazilian researcher Cicero Moraes, who, after a digital reconstruction, suggested it was a medieval bas-relief. His claim has been challenged point by point by three specialists: Tristan Casabianca, Emanuela Marinelli, and Alessandro Piana. They argue that the anatomical model is flawed, that it reproduces only the simulated frontal image on cotton rather than linen, that it reverses the position of the limbs, and that the measurements are approximate. They also state that the 3D work excluded the cloth’s physicochemical properties. Both papers were published in the scientific journal Archeometry, published by the University of Oxford.
