GOOD GENERAL BOOKS ABOUT THE SHROUD
It was a crime scene investigation like no other. A man was tortured, beaten, and killed. He was popular with the people, but many in power wanted Him dead. After a mock trial, the powerful had their way. He was given a hasty burial, but now the body has disappeared. Was there a clue left behind? A bloody sheet offers evidence of a horrific execution. Was the body stolen? By whom and why? Did it just vanish? What does the cloth reveal about the disappearance? The Shroud of Turin (Italy) bears the faint front and back image of a bearded crucified man with corresponding bloodstains that match the Gospel accounts of what happened to Jesus. It is the most analyzed artifact in the world yet remains an unsolved mystery. While there are no artistic substances on the linen cloth, the blood is real, and testing corresponds with type AB. The blood has soaked through the cloth; however, the image resides only on the top 1 percent of the surface fibers. Could it be the same Shroud that wrapped Jesus in the tomb? The Shroud poses the ultimate either-or proposition as either the actual burial cloth of Jesus or the product of human effort, as a work of devotional art or a masterful hoax. There is nothing in between. The culmination of a lifetime of research, countless presentations, and ongoing associations with Shroud experts worldwide, Russ Breault’s Shroud Encounter–Explore the World’s Greatest Unsolved Mystery examines the science, history, and theology surrounding this profound enigma. If proven one day to be authentic, the implications could truly shake the world.
In a language that is both precise and easy to understand, Dr. Zugibe presents his discoveries culled from years of exhaustive research. Documented with 95 illustrations that explore the impact of crucifixion on the body, he demonstrates the realities behind the crucifixion on the body, providing a virtual autopsy on Christ from across the centuries.
Do the Gospels narrate real events or are they mere legends? The answer to these questions is not secondary since it involves deeply our lives. Certainly, the Shroud is the most studied archaeological find in the world, and the Gospels constitute the only key to its interpretation. This link between Shroud and Gospels, therefore, suggested to the Authors to combine the latest scientific research on the Shroud to an investigation equally scientific and documented on the reliability of the Gospels. Summarizing in a single text the results of the natural sciences and the historical ones, in short form and a language accessible, so as to offer an essential synthesis for the modern man who does not want to remain illiterate about the deepest questions. The Authors: Emanuela Marinelli graduated in Natural Sciences and Geological Sciences at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome. She has taught in state schools. Lecturer in Italy and abroad, she has written many articles and sixteen books, on the subject of the Shroud. Her books has been translated into various languages, and among them, La Sindone, storia di un enigma (1998), La Sindone, analisi di un mistero (2009), La Sindone, testimone di una presenza (2010), Alla scoperta della Sindone (2010). Marco Fasol graduated in Philosophy at the Catholic University of Milan and graduated in Religious Studies at the Theological College “San Pietro Martire” of Verona. He teaches history and philosophy in the secondary schools “Alle Stimate” of Verona. He is the author of several essays, including the best seller Il Codice svelato (2006), defending the historical authenticity of the Gospels, I vangeli di Giuda (2007), on the Gnostic Apocrypha, and Eros greco e amore cristiano (2011), all published by Fede & Cultura Universitas.
Two decades after radiocarbon dating declared the Turin Shroud a mediaeval fake, brand-new historical discoveries strongly suggest that this famous cloth, with its extraordinary photographic imprint, is genuinely Christ’s shroud after all. In 1978 in his international bestseller The Turin Shroud Ian Wilson ignited worldwide public debate with his compelling case endorsing the shroud’s authenticity. Now, 30 years later, he has completely rewritten and updated his earlier book to provide fresh evidence to support his original argument. Shroud boldly challenges the current post-radiocarbon dating view – that it is a fake. By arguing his case brilliantly and provocatively, Ian Wilson once more throws the matter into the public arena for further debate and controversy.
Despite its enormous global popularity, the Shroud’s authenticity is not without question. To address lingering uncertainties head-on, celebrated Catholic scientist Dr. Gerard Verschuuren explores and synthesizes the various scientific studies conducted on the Shroud including those analyzing DNA, blood, carbon, pollen, textile, and anatomical issues as well as its storied history. He then scrutinizes the motives of the individual scientists performing these studies, the assumptions they employed to arrive at their conclusions, and the instances in which they veered into areas outside the competence of the sciences. After this exhaustive and highly satisfying analysis, Dr. Verschuuren reveals the reasons why he believes the Shroud of Turin to be the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ, the crucified Savior of mankind. And he celebrates it as a rare instance in which the science and faith communities can meet each other and agree.
2024 Reprint of the 1953 Edition. Illustrated with 12 plates. Full facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. What the Gospels don’t reveal about Christ’s sufferings, science does. While the Gospels relate only the barest essentials concerning the physical suffering of Jesus, Dr. Pierre Barbet addresses these gaps with scientific inquiry. A Doctor at Calvary provides a forensic pathologist’s analysis of the Holy Shroud of Turin, which reveals the graphic account of Jesus’s suffering at the hands of the Romans. Through a modern medical lens, Dr. Barbet examines the methods of infliction and physiological effects of each wound. He also delves into the historic practice and mechanics of crucifixion.
Gilbert R. Lavoie, M.D., invites you on a fascinating adventure to examine the Shroud of Turin, juxtaposing his scientific findings with John’s Gospel account of the death and resurrection of Jesus. This story of the life of Jesus comes alive through relatable, real-world scientific witnesses who explore whether the image on the shroud is the work of human hands, a natural phenomenon, or a supernatural event. There are abundant photos that allow you to decide for yourself what the image and blood marks of this cloth reveal. As you explore the mystery of this shroud through the eyes of forensics and the lens of scripture, you will begin to discover the following, and much more: The reason why the shroud image isn’t mentioned in the Gospels Significant studies that demonstrate why the shroud cannot be a painting Details that confirm that the man of the shroud was crucified How the shroud corroborates the Gospel accounts of the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Dr. Lavoie conducts his own studies to determine how blood transferred from a crucified body to cloth. He applies his experience in treating trauma patients and observing the appearance of corpses in autopsy rooms to unveil intriguing insights about the image and blood on the shroud. And he details other experts’ hands-on observations of the shroud at microscopic, biological, and chemical levels and shows how they attest to its authenticity. This book is a visual journey that opens the door to new insights into the Gospel of John. It is only through John’s witness of the life of Jesus that we can come to a more complete appreciation of the Shroud of Jesus.
In this book, Jack Markwardt, an internationally-renowned Turin Shroud historian, discloses and discusses the relic’s entire hidden history, from the time of its discovery in Jesus’ tomb to the time of its first exhibition in Western Europe, detailing why and how its history became obscured and negating the dubious 1988 radiocarbon-dating results.
“Grasso painstakingly examines all aspects of the Shroud and incorporates recent “infographics,” with its many excellent photos and graphics that complement the text. He meticulously analyzes the Shroud’s correspondence with the gospel accounts; a detailed look at the mechanics of crucifixion; the Shroud’s possible history back to the 1st century; the science of the Shroud from the first photos taken in 1898; the extensive 1978 examination of the Shroud by “The Shroud of Turin Research Project;” the unique image properties of the images, including blood, pollen and 3D information; the infamous C-14 dating in 1988; various proposed hypotheses of how it could have been faked; the virtual impossibility of it having been forged, textile analysis, including Old Testament and New Testament background; a look at the Sudarium of Oviedo, believed by some to be the face cloth mentioned in the Gospel of John; the Shroud’s link with the Resurrection, the implications of the Shroud and addresses common objections against the Shroud’s authenticity.” -Joe Marino
As an original team member of STURP (The Shroud of Turin Research Project, Inc.) who were given the rare opportunity to intricately examine and test the shroud, Dr. Kenneth Stevenson brings forth his fourth treatise on the subject with intriguing new perspective. NAZAH offers an outlook on the Shroud of Turin that looks at both the vast amount of clear, scientific research and evidence, and the heart of the Holy Scriptures. Joined with historical fact, prophetic confirmation, Judaic burial customs and personal reflection, the mystery of the shroud of a crucified Jewish man, whose image was left to be seen, is now brought forth to inspire and challenge a new generation of truth seekers. With additional discussions of the relic’s historical and spiritual significance, NAZAH will touch the hearts of not only those of Jewish faith, but the hearts of people of all faiths who seek deeper meaning as to what the Shroud of Turin means to today’s generation.
Scientific research surprisingly indicates that radiation, in a photographic-like process, most likely created the Shroud’s images. When 19th and 20th century technologies were applied to this burial cloth, they dramatically improved the quality of its images and increased the number of their visible features to well over a hundred. Like an X-Ray, some bones in the hands and spine are even visible. Forensic research now indicates the Shroud is from Jerusalem in the 1st century and is of a dead man who incurred the same series of wounds and was crucified in exactly the same manner as Jesus. If sophisticated 21st century technology was applied to the Shroud at the atomic and molecular levels (along with new DNA testing techniques), they could tell us whether this radiation was particle radiation and whether its source was the dead body wrapped within this cloth. These techniques could not only tell us the age of the cloth, but when and where this miraculous event occurred and whether he was the historical Jesus.

GOOD BOOKS NOT SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE SHROUD
This work also presents a summary of contemporary historical and exegetical evidence for the historicity, Passion, and Resurrection of Jesus, and concludes with a consideration of the Catholic Church and science—particularly the Church’s contributions to science, the complementarity of science and the Bible, and the complementarity of physical evolution and the creation of a soul. The book makes clear that the Catholic Church is not anti-science, but quite the opposite—it is one of the most scientifically aware religious denominations in the world. It will also be clear that science is not anti-God, anti-Christ, or anti-religious. On the contrary, its tools and methods give considerable credible evidence for all of them.
The Gospels might not be “good enough” for modernity, and science is certainly its god. But neither is an impediment to the one, true God. Indeed, He is using methods of the twenty-first century — His twenty-first century — to show how our Faith can be proven through Eucharistic miracles with clinical scientific precision. In this astounding book, prominent cardiologist and author Dr. Franco Serafini walks us through the extensive medical and scientific research into five Eucharistic miracles, unveiling the stunning testimonies of hematologists, oncologists, neurologists, geneticists, molecular biologists, and more who all concluded the same thing: the five Eucharistic miracles are undeniably authentic. In surprising and fascinating ways, each of these miracles relates to the others: all reveal heart muscle tissue, many reveal a heart that was experiencing extreme suffering, and some reveal a heart still enduring tissue trauma. You’ll learn how the human DNA found in Eucharistic substances was identified, what kept a revered eighth-century relic alive until the twenty-first century, and how the identical blood group recurred in the unique miracles to provide contemporary man with a thrilling statistical fortress. Best of all, you’ll be armed with the scientific data to prove not only that God is still active in the world but that He desires all of us to be in union with Him through His Most Precious Body and Blood.
He is risen indeed!
Culture is doing its best to convince the world there is nothing special about Jesus. And many Christians never get beyond a Sunday school understanding of their own faith. Christianity’s most important historical fact–the resurrection–is often the most misunderstood.
Straightforward and accessible, Dr. Johnston presents seven tangible, fresh reasons to believe Jesus really rose from the dead–and why it matters today as the foundation of our hope in the face of suffering and grief, and why Jesus’ victory over death is central to a believer’s faith.
In understanding this truth, you will begin to understand the power of Christ in you that changes everything.
In this lavishly illustrated large coffee-table volume, writer Gorny and photographer Rosikon embarked on a two year investigative journey to seek the truth behind all the relics associated with the passion of Christ. The authors investigated a rich body of documentary evidence found in various museums, archives and churches surrounding sacred objects believed to have been preserved since Jesus’ lifetime, exploring and collaborating with historians and scientists in their attempt to verify the relics’ authenticity. They reach their conclusions not so much on the basis of faith as on the evidence supplied by historical sources and expert scientific opinion. The relics associated with the Passion – the suffering, death and burial of Christ – have long proved something of an enigma for the scientific community. Relics investigated, and photographed, for this glorious volume include: the Cross, nails, crown of thorns, pillar of scourging, Christ’s tunic, the Veil of Manoppello, the Sudarium of Oviedo, the famous Shroud of Turin burial cloth and more. This Second Edition has some updated information and new photos on the relics. It includes a section on “Science & Mystery” that tells about the most comprehensive research ever done on the holy Shroud by a team of scientists from the Shroud of Turin Research Project based in Colorado. The Shroud section also includes a new report by a team of scientists from the ENEA in Frascati, Italy, of a discovery about the Shroud that surpasses any 21st century technological possibilities. It also has exclusive new photos and information on the Tunic of Argenteuil from a public display in 2016 that drew over 250,000 people. And the authors were allowed to take special photographs of the Cross d’Anjou, one of the most beautiful interesting relics of the True Cross, which is normally inaccessible.
GOOD FICTIONAL STORIES
Upper Room, The Way: 33 AD to 57 AD is the first historical novel telling the story of Jesus’ burial Shroud. A story so massive with details and facts, that the media could not begin to present a complete report. Too much time is needed to do so, and the fear of being dull with science details that don’t make any profits, stifles the best producers. However, this historical novel is never dull. L. J. tells an amazing heart pounding, mind augmentation, eye opening, relatable, heart-rendering, and untold story, based on facts and human behavior. A story so compelling, all will spend the time to learn confirming details after reading Upper Room, in order to share the message left some two thousand years ago, for all of us today. For if there is a God, who sent His only Son, is there constant and undeniable proof our human behavior seems to always demand?
L. J. Williams has been actively researching data on the Shroud of Turin for nearly one half of a century. As a scientist, L. J. put together the pieces to the Shroud’s story with scrutiny and saw the intricate revelations that span over two thousand years. The disciplines L. J. studied are in: Archaeology, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Forensics, History, Human Behavior, Medical Science, Palynology, Physics, Textiles, Theology, and Environmental Science. This story shows how elements from all these fields of reason have brought to light what a photograph started in 1898 of a 2,000 year-old Sindone.
Each Gospel’s author has the events about Jesus they knew best. They wrote about Jesus, not a story about themselves. For example, all four Gospels detail the events of the first Easter morning, some people claim there are contradictions. Upper Room presents every element in each Gospel, told at the tomb, in a feasible order. An order based on various data, that has no contradiction, and where every element did occur. In the end, Upper Room presents an order of elements, at times, differently, but the truth shall never change.
This Christian historical fiction, The Only Witness, seamlessly blends historical events with a gripping plot, offering a thrilling and introspective reading experience. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a fan of ancient mysteries, or a seeker of spiritual growth, this novel will captivate your imagination and leave you pondering the secrets at the heart of the Shroud of Turin. It will make you think: “Is the Shroud of Turin real, or is it a 13th-century fake?” Scientists, theologians, and even Christians can’t agree. Whichever side of the controversy you’re on, you’ll love this story of a possible – yet plausible – history of the Shroud of Turin in The Only Witness. If you’re Christian or Jewish, you know Jesus was crucified and buried. If you’re a Christian, you know there was a resurrection. But what happened to the burial cloth? Was there a cloth that witnessed that transformative moment of resurrection? Does it reflect the four Gospels of the Bible?
The Shroud was considered by believers to bear an image of Jesus formed in some miraculous way and by skeptics to be no more than a painting on cloth. Not until Secondo Pia photographed it on May 28, 1898 was it discovered that the image on the Shroud was something much more inexplicable and historically unique than could be dismissed so easily. Whatever else you believe about the Shroud of Turin, there is one remarkable fact that even the most incredulous skeptic must acknowledge: it is the first true negative image in all of history. If it is a 14th century fabrication, it predates the second negative image by over 500 years, but if it is a genuine artifact from the 1st century, by over 1,800 years! Just this single fact alone should pique the interest of anyone who has any real scientific curiosity, regardless of their personal beliefs. But the Shroud seems to have been summarily brushed aside with extreme prejudice by many who claim to have a high regard for scientific study. Being also a venerated religious relic has put it into a kind of nether world in regards to serious consideration by most of those who consider themselves scientifically minded people. But there are those in scientific professions who have taken an honest, objective look at the Shroud and have agreed that this is a very unique and inexplicable object that challenges popular assumptions about how a historical artifact like this must have come to be. In fact some of the most enthusiastic believers in the Shroud’s authenticity are respected scientists who admitted to being very skeptical before they carefully examined the evidence for themselves.
The priest. . . . Brought back to life on an operating room table after a horrific car crash, Father Paul Bartholomew is haunted by frightening visions–especially the moments when he seems to inhabit the body of Christ at Golgotha. The skeptics. . . . Dr. Stephen Castle, a New York City psychiatrist and renowned atheist, has built an international reputation for his book arguing that religion is a figment of human imagination. Professor Marco Gabrielli, an Italian religious researcher and chemist, has made a career of debunking supposed miracles, of explaining the unexplainable. The miracle. . . . For centuries, however, the Shroud of Turin has defied scientific explanation. Is this ancient remnant that bears such a vividly detailed pictorial representation truly the burial cloth that wrapped Christ after he was taken down from the cross? Or is it the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the Christian community? As Father Bartholomew–newly returned to his parish, the venerable St. Joseph’s Church in upper Manhattan–celebrates Mass, blood starts running down his arm. The horrified congregation watches him collapse to the ground, his vestments soaked with the blood pouring from wounds on his wrists. The phenomenon is known as stigmata, when a person appears to manifest the wounds that Christ suffered upon the cross. But in Father Bartholomew’s case there is a mysterious added he has been transformed to resemble in almost every physical aspect the Christ-like figure represented on the Shroud of Turin. Worried that Bartholomew’s case could be proved a hoax, the Vatican employs Dr. Castle and Professor Gabrielli to investigate. But for the well-known psychiatrist and the experienced man of science both, Father Bartholomew presents the most perplexing challenge either has ever faced. Dr. Castle watches in person while the priest appears to writhe in agony, blood spurting from wounds identical to those portrayed on the famous shroud, and he wonders if he too can have been sucked into some kind of shared hallucination. Meanwhile, Professor Gabrielli–confident that he can reproduce the shroud by using materials and methods available in the Middle Ages–works frantically to prove that the shroud is a medieval forgery. But when the priest’s uncanny resemblance to the crucified Christ on the Shroud prompts the two men to investigate the famous artifact itself, each is finally forced to face mysteries that cannot be explained by sheer reason alone. It will be the most unsettling–and eventually soul-wrenching–journey of discovery they have ever undertaken. From Jerome R. Corsi, author of the #1 “New York Times “bestseller “The Obama Nation, “comes a magnificent, thought-provoking first novel. Grounded in the same kind of in-depth, all-encompassing research that has distinguished Corsi’s nonfiction, “The Shroud Codex “plumbs the farthest reaches of science and the human spirit.
When a skeptic organization launches a global campaign to discredit the Shroud of Turin, Graham Eliot is invited to secretly photograph the Shroud and the Sudarium of Oviedo-the cloth believed to have covered Jesus’s face at His crucifixion. But just as the project begins, it’s abruptly shut down, and a fake video of Graham denouncing the Shroud goes viral. Betrayed and under fire, he must turn to unlikely allies- including the skeptic who framed him-to uncover the truth. As tensions rise, a death at a skeptics’ convention threatens to destroy everything-and Graham’s own student becomes the prime suspect. To clear their names and protect the integrity of the relics, Graham must navigate a web of lies, faith, and hidden agendas.
