Who is the Man of the Shroud by Fr Andrew Dalton LC

OTH Newsroom Article 3

Who is the Man of the Shroud?

What the Gospels do not record, Shroud science does. But what does it reveal about the physical sufferings of the man? Are signs of Resurrection traced on the Shroud? How was this enigmatic image, which acts as a photonegative and encodes three-dimensional information, formed in the first place? Do these linen fibers contain the blood that was shed for our salvation?

The Shroud of Turin is the most studied archeological object in human history. This unique audio-visual presentation condenses the most relevant information into one single exhilarating talk.

When we look at the Shroud, do we gaze upon the face of God?

Fr Andrew Dalton takes up this question (and more!) in his uniquely biblical and scientific approach to the most treasured relic in Christendom.

Fr Andrew Dalton

is a Catholic priest of the Legionaries of Christ and professor of theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome, where he teaches the Synoptic Gospels and Biblical Hebrew. He is also the author of Fulfilled Israel according to Matthew’s Plerosis Paradigm (Mohr Siebeck 2024). Millions of people have heard him speak on Jesus and the Shroud of Turin.

Fr Dalton obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Shroud Studies in 2011, and became a board member of Othonia, an international center of investigation on the Shroud, in 2017. In 2018, he worked with Shroud experts all over the world to bring university-level studies to the English-speaking world. He teaches the Biblical Theology of the Passion of the Christ for the Science and Faith Institute, which works in collaboration with the Giulio Ricci Diocesan Centre of Shroud Studies in Rome.
