Este patr\u00f3n, que se asemeja al esqueleto de un pez arenque, se utilizaba en Oriente Pr\u00f3ximo y Egipto durante el siglo I de nuestra era. En excavaciones arqueol\u00f3gicas se han descubierto tejidos de algod\u00f3n y lana en espiga, pero la S\u00e1bana Santa es el \u00fanico tejido de lino antiguo descubierto con esta complicada trama, que no s\u00f3lo a\u00f1ade belleza al tejido, sino que lo hace m\u00e1s compacto, fuerte y resistente al desgaste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despu\u00e9s de tejerla, la tela de la S\u00e1bana Santa fue lavada, blanqueada y decolorada. Presenta bordes acabados (orillos) a lo largo de los lados largos y dobladillos en los lados cortos, lo que sugiere que se cort\u00f3 de un rollo m\u00e1s grande.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
